The full text says “BMW M GmbH will be launching a production model featuring OLED technology in the near future” and that certainly leaves room for interpretation.

The newest M model released by the Munich-based company is the facelifted M6 that will be making its world debut at Detroit next week. However, there’s little room between its launch the one of the X5 M and X6 M and they could also be good candidates for the opportunity of being the first production BMW with OLED lighting.

Then, there’s an even wilder possibility that’s just crazy at the moment... an M7!

Yes, I know I might be crazy but would you just let me dream? The thing is, the M7 has been on the lips of everyone up until now and, truth be told, the 7 Series range lacks a proper competitor for the Audi S8 and the S63/S65 AMG models. Could an M7 finally show up?

There’s little hope about that as most higher-ranking officials were quick on the trigger to deny such rumors but there are a couple of reasons to hope it will become reality.

First of all, the G11 7 Series is the most important model that will be released this year. It’s also supposed to bring a plethora of new tech to the table including OLEDs both inside and out. On top of all that, the construction should shave off around 170 kg (375 lbs), turning the 7er into the best handling car of the segment.

Coupled with a powerful yet light engine (like the S63 compared to the 6-liter V12 in the 760Li), it could be an extremely interesting proposition in the luxurious the aforementioned ridiculously overpowered segment.

That being said, it’s a really long shot but we’re keeping our fingers crossed in the meantime. Truth be told, the M2 is about to be released this spring and that might be the one model that steals the show.
