One of the bad things that come with buying a new car or motorcycle is that the connectivity tech fitted on them can quickly become obsolete. It happens because things are moving very fast in this industry, and what you thought was hip today can be not only old tomorrow but also useless.
Luckily, there are upgrades to be made, but most of the time these come as aftermarket solutions. Carmakers and bike makers themselves rarely provide factory-backed hardware to upgrade your ride, so people are pretty much on their own with this one.
British company Triumph seems to be an exception after it announced this week the launch of a retrofit package for its older bikes equipped with TFT screens. The whole idea behind the package is to offer the My Triumph Connectivity System on more two-wheelers.
The Brits say the first models to be eligible for the upgrade – it will happen as soon as December 21 - are the Street Triples made from 2017 to 2019, and Tiger 800s that left the factory in 2018 and 2019. Sometime next year, the Speed Triple and Tiger 1200 will also join the list.
What the My Triumph Connectivity System brings are all the things that these machines lacked. With it on, riders will have access to a navigation system powered by Google, integrated GoPro control, music and phone operation, and of course, bike status monitoring.
The system needs a dedicated app, which can be downloaded on both iOS and Android devices. It is called My Triumph and it connects through Bluetooth to the ride.
The bike maker did not make any mention about pricing for the retrofit package, nor did it say anything about the markets where it will be available. You can have a look at all the details on this subject released by the company in the press release section below.
