It seems that Sabine Schmitz (yes, the “Queen of the Nurburgring”) is not the only one who knows how to extract the performance out of a van while on the Nordschleife. Nonetheless, while Sabine set a pretty impressive ‘Ring lap time on Top Gear, the driver we want to talk about today is all about the sensations.
We are talking about a guy who decided to drift his way through the infamous Karussell. Sure, he’s not the first to do that, the only difference is that the guy slides the K bend in a VW Transporter. An old Transporter, that is.
This is a T3 and it’s not just cool because it was born in the 80s, but it also packs an air-cooled engine mounted at the back - Porsche thoughts, anybody?
This is nothing short of the best piece of Nurburgring trolling we’ve seen all year. Notice how the cars who actually use the Karussell slow down, so the Vee Dub is the first to exit the corner. Apparently, drifting can be the quickest way around a corner. Sure, this also brings a few safety concerns, but hey, this is the Green Hell.
Amusingly enough, the Scirocco driver in the pic above proves the point about the super-enthusiastic people who own this VW model, as the man actually exits the bend before the Transporter, unlike a Clio RS driver also shown in the clip.
PS: it looks like VW people have a thing for trolling these days.
