Tires are probably the biggest automotive byproduct ever. You can recycle the rubber and use it to make other rubber-based products, but there's just so many out there that companies don't seem to be interested in them any more, not when scrap metal is trading at record levels and is so much more lucrative.
That's why we're always willing to show you something that gives new life to old tires, like this interesting pet project we found while browsing the internet. Apparently, car tires are great for repairing and replacing the damaged soles of shoes.

The method is extremely time-consuming, but if you want something cooler than the three stripes on an Adidas, it's probably worth it.

Basically, what you need to do is to cut the tread off a tire using a cutter and brute force. After that, it's pretty easy to glue and cut the new sole on your shoes. And since car tires are designed to take a beating for many years, they're probably going to take whatever your feet can do in a stride.

And even if they don't look too good, at least you'll have a hardy pair or exercise shoes or a talking point to wow the eco ladies with. Just don't tell anybody that it's less of hassle to buy a new pair of shoes!
