Old Subaru Legacy Loses Traction on Icy Uphill Road - Nearly Crashes

Subarus are renowned for the excellent traction provided by their standard-fit all-wheel drive system, which is one of their main selling points. However, even sophisticated electronics and torque vectoring cannot compensate for the complete lack of grip its owners may encounter when driving their cars on icy roads, especially if these roads also go uphill.
This driver found this out the hard way, as he was trying to get his 1989-1994 Subaru Legacy up a rather steep road, which was covered in deeply-rutted and compact snow, which provides virtually the same (lack of) grip as ice. In this instance, at least, improper or very worn tires may have also played their part in the incident, yet the road he was trying to drive up looked very tricky to begin with, so instead of just driving on, perhaps the driver could have stopped to think it through, before going for it.

Thankfully, the driver in the car behind, the one with the dash-mounted camera was able to keep calm, and as the Subaru slid backwards, he reversed the car, and just managed to get out of the way in time.
