Wald International is one of our favorite Japanese customizers/tuners. The last few years have been all about luxury brands like Lexus and Rolls-Royce for them. But after the Suzuki Jimny came out, they've gone into a lifted 4x4 frenzy, and it shows with this G-Class monster truck.
In 2019, they turned the little Jimny into a G-Class impersonator, but after that, they spent a whole year developing body kits for the actual G from Mercedes. In February of 2020, we got to check out their work, featuring aggressive bumper designs and such.
This isn't that project. At first glance, it looks just like the G 63 that Kim K drives, only with a suspension lift. It's got the right grille design for that, but the proportions seem slightly off. Just one quick glance at the mirror will set you straight: it's probably an older model G-Class, maybe even the G 550 4x4 Squared.
Portal axles are the easiest way to explain how this insane stance is achieved. Wald wasn't messing around when it installed 24-inch alloy wheels with some sizable off-road tires. Together, they make the G-Class looks exactly like the Tonka Mighty Dump Truck that every wannabe 4YO construction worker plays with.
Further fiddling happened in the body kit department, where Wald installed a new bumper, vented out the hood, and fitted triple exhausts (for both sides). The available fender extensions are also cool, but we just can't get over this front end and how it tricks you into thinking it's the new G-Class. Every W463 is going to want that nose job.
There are several big differences between the old G-Class and the one they introduced in 2018. The SUV became wider and received more modern suspensions. It's also lighter, and the new 4-liter V8s are powerful. Still, an old G 63 with the 5.5-liter has wonderful character.
