By now, the Internet is loaded with memes portraying the super-sized kidney grilles on the BMW X7 and 7 Series getting bigger and bigger up to the point where these end up cover the entire car (here's an example for those of you who have somehow missed these funny bits). Well, the trolling is not over, with this also involving the real world.
For instance, I've brought along an E36 BMW 3 Series that has been given what looks like an X7 "nose job". The surgery doesn't seem to involve an actual X7 grille, but rather a printed version of it.
And things get even more ironic when you think that the E36 comes from an era when the German carmaker produced extremely small kidney grilles, such as the brilliant ones found on the original 8 Series.
Of course, with the said troll car showing up as part of Le Mons, one might wonder if that big nose doesn't mess with the airflow, especially since we're talking about racing here - Le Mons allows amateurs to enjoy the thrill of (endurance) racing for the kind of budget a Le Mans team would use for one of the driver's shoes.
Then again, refinement in the Le Mons world means you can no longer spray paint your BMW beater, throw in a cage and call it a day, hence the mod that brought us here.
Oh and if you want to know more about this wonderful speed-to-the-peope series, here's an excerpt from the official rule book, one the covers the mandatory safety inspection:
"Tech inspection (also called “Lemons Safety Inspection”) is in no way a certification, representation, or guarantee that your crappy old vehicle is fit or safe to drive. Each team is solely responsible for determining its vehicle’s safety, fitness to race, and compliance with Lemons’ rules. The team rep shepherding the car through Tech Inspection must be a legal adult and have sufficient knowledge of the vehicle to certify that it meets each and all of the representations made on Lemons’ Tech Sheet,"
