Ohlins RXF 48 Motocross Forks Recalled for Potential Breakage or Detaching

The US branch of Ohlins is recalling 50 motocross forks in the RXF 48 family. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), these forks pose a high crash hazard. Due to an incorrectly manufactured part, there is risk that these forks might break or certain parts may detach.

In case such a thing occurs, it will impact dramatically a rider's ability to maintain directional control of the bike, while the damping properties would also suffer, potentially leading in a crash.

Ohlins says that no incidents or injuries have been reported to date, as the manufacturer detected the potential defect and issued a recall notice, fixing subsequent production batches.

Consumers are advised to stop riding these motorcycles

Ohlins advises consumers that have bought these forks or are riding bikes that may have been fitted with such aftermarket suspensions to stop riding them immediately and get in touch with the manufacturer.

The forks in question have been sold in the US November 2014 through May 2015 for around $3,500. Ohlins adds a short description of the product and mentions how to identify the ones that may experience problems.

"This recall involves æhlins RXF 48 mm front bike forks for motocross bikes. The fork legs are yellow with a large white “æ” and a small “TTX” on the front. The fork legs measure about 37 inches long. The following product and batch numbers are included in this recall and stamped on the silver-colored front fork bottom piece."

The problematic forks have product number FGKT 1586
with batch no. 309632, FGHO 1596, batch no. 309640, FGKT 1596 batch no. 309628, and FGKT 1596 batch no. 138461. Ohlins will repair or replace the defective units.
