Currently designed for motocross, the TTX Flow shock’s technology is said to descent into road applications as well. The company started with a clean sheet of paper in designing the new shock absorber, and the model was developed to offer a smoother roll on bumpy terrain, calming the chassis quicker for corner entry and improving the handling throughout turns.

“We retained our TTX (Twin Tube) Technology but worked extensively on a new ‘check-valve’ system to balance wide valve openings and quick open/close actions to handle a large volume of oil flow,” R&D Engineer Erik Hansson said. “This required a new spool valve system as opposed to the more conventional shim-valve type. Basically, it has been redesigned for each force upon it to be dealt with and ‘forgotten’ as quickly as possible, for fast recovery and keeping the stability of the bike.”

It took Ohlins engineers two years to develop the TTX Flow, and they say the new shock is faster than anything before, managing to get back to static pressure in less than 100th of a second after a bump.

Another major improvement is represented by the design, which is much more rider/mechanic friendly through fewer parts and complexity. Current settings are easier to see and understand as well as easier to adjust, developments that will most likely appeal to road riders as well, if Ohlins will fill that market too.

Motocross and enduro riders can already order their shocks, the TTX Flow being available for most bikes in the class. The shock itself costs £910 (€1,070/1,194) while a wide range of springs coming in different weights can be had separately for £78 (€92/$102).
