Officina Armare’s A88 GranSport Concept Is the Huracan Evo Spyder of the Sea

There’s little purpose to comparing apples and oranges, but in the case of Officina Armare Design, it’s a comparison they invited themselves.

Last year, the Italian design company unveiled a concept called simply the A43, a superb and very fast day boat that was created as a possible companion for the Lamborghini Centenario Roadster. The A43 delivered comparable performance on water, wrapped in a body that borrowed elements of style from the supercar.

The latest concept from Officina Armare turns, once more, to the design language of supercars, to deliver a new boat that’s perhaps even more impressive for how much it aims to achieve on all fronts. The 27-meter / 88-foot A88 GranSport is both spacious and flooded with light, luxurious and packed with all the amenities, but aggressive and muscular-looking, and able to deliver a performance to match the brawny exterior.

If all that isn’t enough to pique your interest, it also comes with a customizable interior layout and space to joggle everything to your liking. If the Huracan Evo Spyder had a big sister on water, the A88 GranSport would be it.

The A88 stands out for the sleek body made of carbon fiber with glass panels, which evokes speed even when stationary. The resemblance to supercars is on purpose and is meant to improve performance on water – from the coupe-like roofline to the massive bow, the accentuated aft hips and the unbroken line from stem to stern, and the four overwater exhausts.

The overwater exhausts at the stem would also be made of carbon fiber, as would be the lateral wings. Multiple air intakes would improve aerodynamics, as would the hardtop made of glass panels. The latter would also allow guests the opportunity to choose between sun and shade.

“Form follows performance,” Officina Armare says in the description of the new concept. “A unique blend of modern and sportive, luxurious and comfortable ambiance.”

The A88 stands out for being incredibly spacious as well, though you probably can’t tell by looking at it. The design studio imagines it with accommodation capacity for up to eight guests in two master suites and two twin cabins, one of which can be made either with twin or double beds.

The owner suite would be full beam and come with luxury amenities like a sit-down shower, windows that run on either side throughout (so it would be flooded with natural light the entire day), a king-size bed and a mini lounge area. All other rooms would have their own ensuites, and an additional two-person cabin is available for crew.

Two separate dining areas are included, one attached to the galley, which comes with a full bar, and a more intimate one on the foredeck. Both are ideal for al fresco dining but can also function as sundecks. There is also an actual beach club and a tender garage that comes with a pair of Seabobs and a Williams SportJet 435 with a launching system.

While this is the standard layout for the interior, Officina Armare says it’s open to suggestions, so they’re willing to work with the future owner so as to customize the space to their preferences.

The A88 comes with underwater lights that heighten its already impressive presence at sea, and a new Besenzoni anchoring system hidden behind a hatch in the bow so as to not break the flow of the body.

Last but not least, the A88 packs an incredible amount of power. Equipped with a pair of twin 2,600-hp MTU 16V 2000 M94 diesel engines, it can top 40 knots at sea at full throttle. At a more leisurely speed of 35 knots, it comes with a range of 350 nautical miles.

As of the time of writing, the A88 is still a concept, but Officina Armare is taking calls and questions from all interested parties. As for price, you know what they say: if you have to ask, this isn’t for you.
