Official: ICA Clears All Diffuser Designs

The FIA International Court of Appeal has finally given the undisputed verdict for the diffuser saga. According to GMM news agency, all 5 judges decided to deny the appeals of Ferrari, Renault, Red Bull Racing and BMW Sauber on the alleged illegality of the double-decker designs used by the “diffuser three” – Brawn GP, Williams F1 and Toyota.

The ICA meeting – held in Paris during the course of yesterday – lasted 8 hours, in which all protesting teams have tried to argue that the diffusers were not compliant with the FIA technical rule book. However, the ICA concluded the stewards in both Australia and Sepang were right to clear the designs ahead of the first two races.

"The FIA International Court of Appeal has decided to deny the appeals submitted against decisions numbered 16 to 24 taken by the Panel of the Stewards on 26 March at the 2009 Grand Prix of Australia and counting towards the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship," said the FIA statement

Toyota have been the first team to hail FIA's decision on the rear diffuser dilemma, issuing a quick statement early this morning.

“Toyota Motorsport is pleased to hear the FIA International Court of Appeal has upheld the decision of the Australian Grand Prix stewards concerning the rear diffuser on our car,” said the Toyota statement.

“We also made full use of the consultation procedure with the FIA which was a helpful process to ensure our interpretation of the technical regulations was correct. Therefore we had every confidence that the design of our car would be confirmed as legal, firstly by race stewards in Australia and Malaysia and subsequently by the Court of Appeal,” added the statement.
