And these are the first official photos that Ford released into the world. It's supposed to be the best Mustang with this engine and everybody is excited
Ford&Co have revived many of the most iconic Mustang nameplates over the years, the GT500, the Super Snake, the Bullitt, or the Boss. But one of them was always missing, and that's the Mustang Mach 1. Starting with the 2021 model year, that's about to change.
Perhaps the best news of all is that the Mustang Mach 1 doesn't have anything to do with electric crossovers. Instead, this will be a limited edition pony that Ford describes as a “pinnacle of style, handling, and 5.0-liter V8 performance.”
So we know it's got better tech than the Bullitt and probably also outguns the Mustang GT Performance Pack 2, at least in the handling department.
Beyond that, it's had to tell what the actual theme of the Mach 1 is. But Ford did release a few teaser photos that show the 2021 Mustang prototype testing in the track environment with camo over its front and rear ends.
It doesn't look like Ford is banking on the nostalgia factor too hard. The Mach 1 was available between 1969 and 1978, although the most desirable models are the early ones. The only visible inspiration from that car are the two round air scoops in the grille.
Between 2003 and 2004, Ford also offered a Mustang Mach 1. But we're talking about the SN95, so it's not exactly the most celebrated model. If we remember correctly, they did give you a collector's watch with that.
From Ford's three teaser photos, we can also make out the massive Brembo brake pack, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires sized 305/30/19 and GT350-style quad exhaust. The Mach 1 could very well be the last special edition of this generation as well as a direct replacement for the Bullitt. That's what they did with the 4th-gen.
“Mach 1 has a special place in Mustang history, and it’s time for this special edition to claim the top spot in our 5.0-liter V-8 performance lineup and reward our most hardcore Mustang enthusiasts who demand that next level of power, precision and collectability,” said Dave Pericak, director of Ford Icons.
