For a market where most car makers are expected to offer at least one model with an extended wheelbase that accommodates those long legged Asian businessmen and women, China is sure a strange place for the smart fortwo to be successful.
Well, believe it or not, but people in the Middle Kingdom are in love with long-wheelbase models and the tiny fortwo city car in equal measure, as the petite model has been recently voted as the “best micro car 2014” by readers of the “auto, motor and sport” car magazine.

We are naturally talking about the Chinese edition of the German magazine, whose readers elected the smart fortwo as leader of its segment for the fifth time in a row.

The fun fact is that an overwhelming majority of 42.9 percent of all votes went to the fortwo, with the rest being divided between all the other competing models.

The smart fortwo's success in China in 2014 is also a bit odd taking into account that the current model has about 3-4 months of life points left until the third generation of the model is launched.

On the other hand, with under three meters in length, it is most definitely a perfect candidate in terms of personal transportation in congested cities like Beijing or Shanghai. Since it is arguably its most important trait, the third generation of the model will keep its length almost identical to the current car.
