Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins Poses Next to McLaren SLR Roadster

Footballers and expensive cars go hand in hand, as there is no better way to show that you have made it into the big leagues than buying something with chrome wheels and a lot of zeros at the end of the price tag.

And while aftermarket parts are usually brought to the mix for that added feel of exclusivity, it’s all usually done in decent taste. Nigerian soccer player Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins (people call him Martins, so we'll do the same in order to preserve the integrity of our tongues) is no exception to this rule.

The footballer was recently spotted at the wheel of this black Mercedes Benz McLaren SLR. The Birmingham City striker stopped outside the Mayfair Hotel and he stood next to his new wheels for a few shots after which he went
inside with his lady and her eye-catching leggings.

We’re not to sure about the metallic gray wheels but he SLR is one cool ride, especially in its Roadster guise, which combines high-tech from motor racing and the power of a top high-performance sports car with the long-distance attributes and sophisticated atmosphere of a classic Gran Tourismo car. Its AMG V8 compressor engine with air-to-water intercooling, three-valve technology, dry sump lubrication and four metal catalytic converters ensures a favorably low center of gravity.

With 626 hp and a maximum torque of 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) at the disposal of Martins’ right foot, the AMG V8 compressor engine, which is coupled to an AMG Speedshift R five-speed automatic transmission, catapults the Roadster from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 3.8 seconds.
