The velocity world might have all eyes on the Bugatti Chiron these days, but the Veyron is still under the spotlights thanks to British tuner Oakley Design's take on the now-retired hypercar.
Back in February, we showed you their one-off Veyron, with the most important tech change being an ECU remap that, along with a few other small mods, allows the W16 at the middle of this early-model Veyron to go from 1,001 to 1,200 PS, while the torque jumped from 1,250 Nm (922 lb-ft) to 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft).

Oh, and let's not forget the carbon fiber diet that helped the Bugatti shed 200 kg (110 lbs) - from the technical point of view, you can regard this as a tuner-built Veyron Super Sport.

The one-off, which is taking part in this year's Gumball 3000 rolling for Team Wolfpack as you are reading this, took a detour, heading for a high-speed oval in France for some top speed runs.

While Oakley Design hasn't provided any footage, the custom Bugatti has managed to hit 257,869 mph (412.999 km/h) so far - to our eyes, it looks like they hit the Mortefontaine private track. Regardless, the 45-degree banking seen here makes for a surreal view, so here's to hoping the company releases a video of their insane velocity run(s).

While the aftermarket developer has promised further incursions into top velocity land, we'll add the mandatory grain of salt. We have to do that after their otherwise respectable technical work fell short of the 1,600 PS target they had announced while teasing the custom hypercar last fall.

However, the speed mentioned above places the one-off in between the 253 mph (407 km/h) top speed of the "standard" model this custom version used as a starting point and the 267.7 mph (430.9 km/h) top speed of the 1,200 PS Veyron Super Sport.

And yes, this is a million times better than seeing this Veyron having to work its way through the busy London traffic.
