Nzuri Explorer Means Serious Business, Comes With Twin Audi AI:TRAIL quattros

Officially unveiled in October 2020, Nzuri is as bold as it’s beautiful as well as opulent without verging into tacky territory. It’s a superyacht, but also an explorer, which means it combines efficiency and solid performance with the kind of amenities that make the phrase “in the lap of luxury” pop to mind.

Kyron Design has only been around for about a hot second, but their first project is one that’s gotten the attention of specialized media, such as Boat International. And for good reason, too: Nzuri stands out for an aggressive, bold profile, plenty of gear worthy of the explorer moniker, and totally lavish amenities.

And because these days you can’t make an impression without doing something really extraordinary, Nzuri does that by incorporating twin Audi AI:TRAIL quattros on the main deck. That would be the all-terrain, self-driving, all-electric concept unveiled last year. It’s a fitting choice if you think about it: for a superyacht with such a futuristic design, only a vehicle that hasn’t been released yet will do.

With “soft yet strong” exterior lines, 230-foot (70-meter) Nzuri has a steel hull and a partial fiberglass superstructure. The latter means that the owner’s suite on the main deck comes with floor-to-ceiling glazing, allowing for uninterrupted views of the surrounding area. Again, this is a very considerate design element: if you’re going to get yourself an explorer with far-reaching range, you might as well be able to take in the breathtaking views.

Speaking of range, Nzuri has plenty of that. With a proposed top speed of 22 knots, it has a range of 4,000 nautical miles, which means it can go anywhere, from the polar regions to the Galapagos Islands. To make the most use of these locations, guests get a fully-equipped exploration room.

Accommodation on board is for 20 guests across ten cabins and additional quarters for the crew. The design studio didn’t go into the specifics of the cabins, except the stunning owner’s suite, which sits on the main deck and is meant as the cherry on top. It has its own private terrace, walk-in shower and sauna, and access to the ship’s only pool – which, when needed, can easily convert into a helipad.

Throughout, the interior is opulent, with a mixture of rich materials like marble and hardwood, crystals, and plenty of gold. While decidedly flashy, Nzuri isn’t tacky or overbearing in the manner of other superyachts but walks that fine line between luxurious and extravagant without steering into gaudy territory.

Also on the main deck is a circular lounge described as “the heart” of the yacht, which can serve as a seating room or dining room with its own bar, depending on circumstances and needs. Strangely enough, this is where designers chose to place the two Audi AVs, and they strike one as an unpleasant contrast with the classic furniture and stylish décor.

The sun deck includes a jacuzzi and plenty of space for lounging and chilling. In a partially covered area, there’s a firepit that should offer some respite from the cold for those looking for some fresh air in those aforementioned polar regions.

The aft includes another spacious relaxation area: the beach club, with retractable decks to accommodate an even larger party of guests. It also has a second bar and plenty of day beds for swimmers to work on their tans.

In addition to the dedicated exploration room and the pair of Audis on the main deck, Nzuri packs two tenders and six jet skis in the lateral garage. In short, you’d be hard-pressed to say you have nothing to do on this one-of-a-kind superyacht explorer. Assuming it ever gets built because, as of the moment of press, Nzuri is just a concept.
