NVIDIA and icon Team Up for 3D Gauge Cluster

Techy heads out there have just received a new toy to look at: a 3D gauge cluster, especially designed for future car models, which brings all the information the driver needs in a single, yet user friendly manner. As you can see in the adjacent photos, the concept looks more than futuristic but still, it could prove to be extremely useful these days.

According to a report by KickingTires, the concept was designed by NVIDIA - the famous computer hardware manufacturer - and icon who already has some experience in car technologies development.

Specifically, the 3D gauge brings the driver all details he needs, no matter if we're talking about current speed, gear, time, date, fuel level or engine temperature. Additionally, it can provide even more data, depending on the car model it is incorporated in, such as MP3 player information and
navigation directions.

The advantage? It can be easily integrated into an LCD display that can replace the traditional instrument cluster, without the need of a second gauge for revs or other type of data. This way, the manufacturers could easily set up their very own configuration or even allow the driver to select the details they want to access through the 3D gauge.

Unfortunately, the project is still in very early development stages so nobody can't say for sure when, or maybe if it will enter mass production. Meanwhile, the two manufacturers are continuously working on it, so new details are expected to be released in the near future. Let's just hope that automakers, who are mostly hit by the crisis, will find the resources needed to purchase such a system.
