Mercedes might have three points on its star, but those of the Maserati trident look much sharper since they launched the all-new Quattroporte. It's elegant and yet very exciting in a way no German executive car has so far managed to be. The Italians offer a wider range of turbocharged engines and now specialist Maserati tuner Novitec Tridente says it can boost each and every one of them, also sprucing up the exterior design with even more sporty touches.
The German tuning company started off with the European market 3-liter V6 diesel, which in stock form pushes out 275 PS and 600 Nm of torque. Novitec's re-mapped version makes 322 PS and 680 Nm, supposedly enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
That's all well and good. However, it's in the petrol range that things really start to heat up. When it leaves the Italian factory, the 3-liter twin-turbo V6 in the new Quattroporte delivers 410 PS and 550 Nm of torque. However, a trip to Novitec will bump that number to 476 rampaging Italian stallions.
Finally, there's the flagship Quattroporte GTS to consider. Its 3.8-liter V8 benefits from a bump of 75 PS and 110 Nm, thus reaching 605 PS and 820 Nm of toque. Needless to say, it's more than any German performance sedan, as things should be. Numbers like 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 318 km/h (198 mph) demand respect, as do the mods. These include new alloy wheels and carbon-fiber add ons like the two-piece front spoiler, side skirts and boot lid spoiler.
Even with carbon bits and a matte wrap, the Quattroporte still doesn't look like a footballer's car, which is why we give this tuning project two thumbs up!
