Novitec Ferrari 488 with No-Valve Exhaust Sounds Like a Racecar, Looks Like One

One of the main benefits we get with modern Ferraris is that these otherwise outlandish machines can become tame and city-ready at the turn of a Manettino switch.

One of the many elements that allows this splendid duality comes from the valve-gifted exhaust system. However, it seems that some people prefer the loud-all-the-time approach we used to get back in the day.

At least that's the conclusion we've come to after checking out the valveless exhaust system provided by Italian aftermarket label Novitec Rosso. The company has come up with an exhaust system that eliminates the flaps regulating the dB level of the twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 of the supercar. And when we're talking about a forced-fed powerplant that delivers its peak power of 661 hp at 8,000 rpm, that is going to make quite a difference.

The system can be built from steel or, if you're willing to throw in some extra cash, from Inconel, a lighter and stronger material with motorsport applications.

The piece of footage at the bottom of the page allows you to get a brief taste of a Novitec Ferrari 488. Mind you, the rear fascia, which had to be removed in order for the exhaust to be installed, is missing. Which means that the Maranello machine not only sounds like a racecar, it also looks like one that has lost its rear end in a crash.

With the exception of vehicles that spend almost their entire life on the track, we struggle to find a reasonable explanation for gifting your supercar with such a system.

For one thing, living with the standard exhaust might become tiring after a while, as you'll have to switch to an aggressive driving mode and/or floor it to enjoy the full aural pleasures delivered by the 488. But that's what aftermarket exhaust systems that allow the driver to control the valves at all times are for.
