Every one is equal when it comes to obeying the law, but here’s a clear case of over-zealousness on the part of a parking warden in Nottingham.
Video shot late last week has been posted to social media, where it’s gone viral since, showing 2 cops getting ticketed for illegal parking while on the job. Despite protestations from one of the officers and even passers-by, the warden wouldn’t even hear of it, Nottingham Post reports.
It happened in The Square, in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. Cops were called on the scene to assist a “vulnerable” man, and they pulled over nearest to where he was. After trying to reason with the parking warden and explain to him that they were on the job, they returned to the man and spend another hour with him, according to a statement from Nottinghamshire Police.
In the video, you can hear passers-by call the warden “a stupid man” and telling him that what he’s doing is out of order. For whatever reasons, he refuses to listen to them.
With the video getting so much attention in the media, the ticket has been canceled. Still, Nottinghamshire Police will not let this go.
“For officers who are simply doing their job to be given a parking ticket while on duty and parking their vehicle in order to come to the aid of someone in need, is wholly unacceptable and the actions of the parking attendant should be questioned,” Assistant Chief Constable Stu Prior says.
“Why would he have even started writing a parking ticket, when he should have been able to see that the officer was helping a vulnerable man,” Prior adds. “While I understand the ticket has since been canceled, I will be raising this with Nottinghamshire County Council directly about the parking warden’s actions.”
The County Council has apologized for the incident, but the company providing the wardens, also known as civil enforcement officers, NSL Services, is yet to acknowledge the incident.
