This isn’t by far the first time metal magician Lorenzo Fugaroli of FMW Motorcycles is present on autoevolution. Now it’s time to introduce his latest build, the Metal Slug, another proof of his awesome technique and creativity.
Now, the term “slug” is definitely misleading, as the latest FMW creation is nothing like the slow animal. The “donor” bike is an all-new 2013 Norton Commando 961, fresh from the Donnington Hall assembly line, and which seemed like the best starting point for a striking build. As the Fugar himself declares, the Norton was changed dramatically: more than 70 percent of the whole aspect is new, 90% of the whole chassis and geometry and 80% of the bodywork. Meaning we kind of get a new bike…

The engine was left in its stock trim, on the technical side, but obviously received some aesthetic trimming to match the rest of the bike. The original airbox was ditched in favor of the new one Lorenzo designed and built. With a new air intake, it was only natural that the exhaust be changed, as well. The Fugar has drawn a new 2-into-1 exhaust system and had it installed on the Norton, and it looks smashing, to say the least.

If anything, Norton’s OEM exhausts are classic and retain the old-school attire, whereas the FMW silencer is a modern as it gets, without tripping on the futuristic side of things. The triangle-shaped flared can looks like a million bucks, and the MotoGP-style perforated end cap was a brilliant idea.

The braking system was updated with Accossato Superbike radial pumps, while the bars were upgraded to clip-ons form the same source. Everything you see on the Metal Slug was designed and made in house, even the fuel tank. Add the rear hump, instrument cluster holder, chain guard, fenders, the awesome, noble seat and the headlight bracket to that list, as well.

The golden shine of the Öhlins suspensions also makes a very hot contrast in relation to the elegant transparent lacquer which preserves the cold, superior glares of the polished aluminium bodywork. The FMW Metal Slug is a great proof that even all-new and updated as the new Norton bikes are, they can still become tenfold cooler.
