If anything, Norton most likely does not want their Hi-Rider appearing too much in any discussion, as the bike was far from the cool-look machines the (now) Donnington Hall-based manufactured used to deliver. However, where there's love, there is a way, and Julian Aze's bike is the perfect proof.
He got the '74 bike from a French importer who was quite happy to let it go. In very bad shape after some failed customization attempts, the two-wheeler was in a really sorry state, mechanically and aesthetically.
With the help of a neighbor, Vincent Prat of Wheels & Waves and Southsiders MC fame, Julien started the painstaking process of restoring the bike and rebuilding it into a hardtail custom beauty.
After more than two years of trial and error, the bike now runs smooth and looks like much better than any Hi-Rider could ever dream of, with handmade handlebars, sissy bar, dual oil tanks and the classic bobber sprung saddle.
The rear wheel shrunk to the 16" mark to enhance the overall stance and an 1930 Cibie headlight was added to bring even more retro character to the machine. Julien and his Southsiders MC buddies took turns in riding this sweet bike and so far things looks like set for good. At least until il breaks down again, as Julian likes to joke.
