North Carolina Cops Bust Counterfeit Airbag Operation

This is something we were very surprised about. Apparently, law enforcement officials managed to bust a counterfeit airbag operation, which was based in the state of North Carolina. Aside from the arrests which were made, cops also managed to confiscate some 1,500 fake airbags which were destined for a variety of different models from various automakers, including Toyota and Lexus.

It is still unclear how the airbags were eventually put back into running cars, but if a recently-bought vehicle shows signs of accident damage, and a possible replacement of the airbags, it is a prime target for the counterfeit ones. A simple way to determine whether or not the airbag is genuine or not, is to simply look at it and checking for official manufacturer markings and branding.

It is a real pity that crooks have made their way into the safety side of things, matters which should only be handled by those qualified to handle them. If you do suspect a possible fake-bag in your car, do go and have it checked out at an official dealer. It seems that Prada and Gucci aren’t the only companies who now have to deal with fake bags...
