The Stuttgart-based premium automaker has revealed its next-generation racer, the 2021 911 GT3 Cup, which Porsche describes as the “world’s top-selling.” And the good news come in bundles, because from next year the model will reach racetracks of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup variety, along with the national Carrera Cups in Germany, France, Asia, Benelux, and for the first time – North America.
After all the careful teasing and planning from Porsche, it turns out the racing-bred 911 GT3 Cup derivative took precedence in front of the standard 911 GT3. Sure, we can also consider this reveal as part of the same campaign since the Cup racer is based on the street version.

Porsche touts the 911 GT3 Cup as the first circuit-bred model underpinned by the current 992 generation architecture. And the premieres do not stop there because the carmaker also announces the new derivative as “the first makes-cup racer of the sports car manufacturer to feature a wide turbo-spec body.”

As far as the technical credentials are concerned, the 375 kW (510 PS/ 503 hp) engine adds some 25 horsepower on top of the predecessors' credentials – and we can safely assume this is the same power level we’ll see on the regular 911 GT3.

The company touts both increased efficiency and performance for the Cup racer, revealing it can use synthetic fuel (which “significantly lowers CO2 emissions under racing conditions”) while still coming to the pit with around one percent better lap times than before (depending on the track).

First deliveries to racing teams have been scheduled for February next year, and anyone interested in racing the one-make series model will have to prepare at least €225,000 (a little over $273k, as per the current exchange rates) before considering the various taxes and specifics for each country of release.

Best of all, Porsche promises that its 2021 911 GT3 Cup will become available in North America alongside the traditional markets. Michael Dreiser, Porsche Motorsport sales director, thinks the “new 911 GT3 Cup now starts a new chapter. Our goal is to pass the 5,000 mark in production over the coming years. Like its ancestral lineage, this model will also assist a whole new generation of talented racing drivers on their path to professional motorsport and shape the face of our customer sport commitment around the world.
