One of the cars that was seen for the first time on American soil yesterday, once the New York Auto Show 2014 opened its gates, was the new BMW X3 LCI, the refreshed model that’s ready for another 3 years of success.
That’s because the X1 and X3 are the best selling models in the X Series range at the moment, being really sought after, especially the former, due to its hydraulic steering.

The X3 on the other hand, came prepared with another premiere for the US market: a diesel engine. Up until now, any BMW-loving SUV-enthusiast had to make due with petrol engines alone. The Germans decided to offer them an alternative though.

The xDrive28d model is the first diesel X3 to be sold in the US. It uses a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine making 180 HP and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque that is extremely frugal, returning up to 47 mpg (5 l/100 km) outside the city, according to BMW’s estimates.

The diesel alternative will only be available with the automatic 8-speed gearbox from ZF and will do 60 mph from a standstill in 7.9 seconds.

If it’s already sounding enticing, you should know that the xDrive28d model is now on sale in the US, starting at $42,825, including the $925 destination and handling fee.
