No Turning Back: Bentley SUV Coming in 2014

With the information that Bentley’s boss wants to introduce both next-gen diesels and hybrid into the engine range fresh in our minds, it’s time to bring you news of the car the mill will go into. Given the company CEO’s involvement with Porsche’s Cayenne, it’s obvious, isn’t it?!

According to Autocar, Bentley is hard at work designing a Superluxury SUV costing in the region of £150,000. The news comes directly from mister Durheimer, who says the model will be unveiled in 2014. There’s no turning back now, as the model is being developed at Crewe where design chief Dirk van Braeckel and engineering boss Uli Eichhorn are giving it their all.

We have to admit that the current Bentley lineup, which caters more to soccer superstars and rappers, is not really to our liking. But we can’t imagine Porsche without the Cayenne, and if Durheimer manages to do the same with the Bentley SUV, it will surely have the autoevolution thumbs up! "I have great faith in the SUV market and it’s here to stay," says Durheimer.

German SUVs usually spell luxury, but they should look like mere premium models when Benley’s luxury woods and leathers arrive on the scene.

The platform that underpins the SUV is still a subject o debate, though VW Group’s new MLB for in-line mounted engines is the most likely candidate.

The Bugatti Veyron has its 1000 hp magic figure, and Durheimer wants his SUV to have 1000 Nm of torque - the properly big figure for the gentlemen’s off-roader.

We’ve already told you of the V12, but the petrol V12 will also be offered to buyers who don’t want an oil-burner.
