Toyota made the best affordable sportscar happen two year ago, but unfortunately there are still areas where enthusiasts can’t purchase one. Such a place is India, where people will have to import a GT 86 if they really want one, as the automaker isn’t going to put the model on sale to soon.
Indian subsidiary Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) again teased the public this year by bringing a TRD GT 86 at the Auto Expo show in February, but that was just to showcase what other countries will get. What a shame...
The company ‘blames’ the GT 86’s low 120 mm suspension for not selling it in India. We haven’t been in the country, but they say the road conditions are far from perfect there and a sportscar that low to the ground will have a bad time negotiating potholes and bumps.
Rising the suspension might seem a solution, but apart making the car look like a redneck-mobile, it will also spoil its low center of gravity. So even if Indians will buy it, no one will understand what’s so special about it and why people keep saying its the perfect coupe daily driver.
Well, who knows, maybe they’ll get the overly-rumored GT 86 sedan version if it will come by with the sportscar’s second generation. That one might stay a bit higher on its heels.
