No Toyota GT 86 Convertible, But Sedan Still Pondered

Despite Toyota building two GT 86 Convertibles to showcase at different auto events this year, Subaru denied the concept entering production too soon, as chopping the roof off the jointly-developed coupe will need unfeasible changes to make it safe on the road.
However, Subaru might have been offered a sneak peek at an upcoming sedan based on the BRZ/GT 86 platform through the Cross Sports Design Concept unveiled this year at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Talking with Motoring.com.au recently, a source close to Toyota also enforced the idea of a four-door sporty sedan, saying that “it’d be easy to bring the B-pillar forward, add a rear door and slant the rear roof section to create a viable sedan look.”

Moreover, the source also hinted at a 2-liter turbocharged engine to power the sedan that will be 510mm longer and 100mm taller than the current GT 86.
