Some riders kept on asking why does the 2014 KTM 1290 Super Duke R not come with a quickshift transmission, and the Austrian manufacturer has recently provided an answer.
The reason for not installing a quickshifter gearbox is that the present engine configuration is not working at its possible best with such a transmission. Having derived the Beast's engine from that of the RC8 machine kind of prevented KTM from using this technology in the new bike.

Even more, KTM has made tests which showed that a quickshifter will work in suboptimal conditions, race track, country road, city.

KTM adds they are working on a quickshifter which will be offered as a PowerPart option fr future models, but it will only be available when an actual enhancement of the riding experience will be documented.

As for those who are wondering whether the 1290 Super Duke R will be a worthy adversary for superbikes, KTM say the answer is yes. However, given the aerodynamic design of superbikes, they have a solid advantage on fast tracks with long high-speed sectors.

On the other hand, the beast has the upper hand in the slower areas, so it's up to the rider to make up for these pros and cons when putting up a battle with fully-faired superbikes.
