Introduced in 2002 as a Corolla hatchback, the Toyota Matrix entered production in 2008, being built by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.
The United States, Mexican and Canadian market was its home until now, Toyota announcing that the Matrix will be discontinued from 2014 due to decaying demand.
Being developed under a joint venture with General Motors, the Matrix will also pull the Pontiac Vibe twin with it in the grave. So if you fancied one of the two models and wanted a brand new one, its time to make up your mind and hit the dealership.
The base Matrix L model costs $19,275 and it is powered by a 132 hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder VVT-i engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is also a 4-speed automatic version that will set you down about $1,000 more.
Standard features include daylight running lights, color-keyed heated power mirrors, 16-inch steel wheels with covers, air conditioning, six-speaker audio system with multiple connectivity, fabric trimmed seats, cruise control, power windows and door locks and other.
There is also a higher S grade powered by a 2.4-liter engine producing 158 horsepower, which can also be fitted with an all-wheel drivetrain for $22,415.
