No More BMW in the Endurance World Championship

BMW Motorrad announces they are leaving the 2014 FIM Endurance World Championship, and thus no longer providing support for the Belgian outfit Team Thevent.

Thevent's Michael Barholemy says the decision comes as a shock, since the team and BMW had agreed on continuing the relationship in 2014. Negotiations had been carried out last year at Le Mans, and everything seemed to work just fine.

Team thevent finished 2013 on a disappointing 12th place, but Bartholemy reminds us that his team had excellent results in 2011 and 2013, with three wins and an overall second place. This includes a Le Mans podium, a first for an European bike manufacturer.

Even though Team Thevent is looking for a new sponsor, it's hard to believe that they are capable of setting things straight until the Endurance World Championship kicks off with the Bol D'Or 24-hour round at Magny-Cours, France, on 26 April.

Wonder what's cooking at BMW, first backing off from WSBK and now EWC...
