No KERS for Raikkonen in Bahrain

Kimi Raikkonen has confirmed that his car will not use the Kinetic Energy Recovery System in Bahrain during the Friday practice sessions. However, this doesn't mean Ferrari will abandon the unit completely for the weekend, as Felipe Massa is scheduled to contest on a KERS-powered F60 from as early as tomorrow.

According to the Finnish driver, if the KERS-powered car will perform better on the Sakhir circuit and its use will therefore prove crucial, his car might also be fitted with the device from Saturday onwards.

“I won't use it tomorrow. The other car will run it tomorrow and then we will make a decision about which way we go. We want to look a little bit to compare the two cars and see what difference it makes,” said Raikkonen, who once again admitted he is not a very big fan of the technology after the first few races.

As argued by the 2007 F1 champion, the Ferrari F60 is able to score lap times just as fast as when fitted with KERS. Not to mention the electrical problems that may appear when using it and the losses in terms of car's balance in brings. Considering Raikkonen is not one of the lightest driver in Formula 1, his mechanics are certainly having a hard time distributing ballast properly around the car.

While BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld will continue to run with KERS in Bahrain, Ferrari will be joined by Renault and McLaren in deciding the implementation of their KERS technology depending on the outcome of the Friday practice sessions.
