Shelton Foster and Mike Wall, both living in Louisiana, planned to break the world record for no-hands riding, but their attempt came to an unexpected halt on Tuesday as rain had something to say about their little shenanigan.
Named “Jesus, Take The Wheel”, the official record attempt was scheduled to be held on the MSR Speedway track in Angleton, Texas. Monday was a great practice day, with both Shelton and Wall having completed 40 laps of the 2.38-mile, 17-turn circuit without using their hands.

However, they didn’t expected to rain the next day. Even so, they decided to still try their luck, but sadly, Foster didn’t even manage to complete one lap and crashed.

“I didn’t even get around the track one time,” Foster told TheTownTalk. “There was water all over the track.” At some point, his rear ended slip and both him and the bike went down.

Thankfully, he ended up only with a bit of road rash on his knee, foot, elbow and shoulder. His bike, a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, also suffered some $1,000 trauma. The two are poised to try again in a few months after they recover and repair the motorcycle.

Wall and Foster are both US Army veterans and work at the Pollock Federal Correctional Complex. They claim to also be experienced riders, having been in the saddle for thousands of highway miles on their bikes with no hands.

The “Jesus, Take The Wheel” initiative has another target along with putting them in the record book, and that is to raise money and awareness for three US charity organizations - Domestic Abuse Resistance Team, or DART, in Colfax; Heels for Combat Boots; and Brothers and Sisters in Arms of Leesville.

In case you wondered if there is another no-hands-riding record, Italian Marcello Sarandrea scored 137.94 miles in 2015 while riding a Yamaha Tricker 250 in Rome.
