Long-standing rumors regarding a Dacia-badged minicar have been denies by Renault today, who said the Romanian brand will not join the segment now dominated by the Fiat 500.
Speaking to Automotive News Europe, Renault COO Carlos Tavares said that marketing costs would become too high if Dacia were to extend its lineup with a city car.

“What I want to avoid is to have too many cars. We need to be communicating the brand rather than fragmenting our marketing dollars on too many models. Dacia’s brand awareness is still quite low,” Tavares told our source.

Recent reports claimed that Dacia will launch a 5,000 five-door city car by 2015, that would be underpinned by the Renault Twingo’s platform. The Romanian brand sells five models in Europe: the Sandero (subcompact), Logan (sedan & station wagon), Duster (SUV), Lodgy (compact MPV) and the Dokker (city van).

Dacia sales grew 18 percent this year, to 90,000 units delivered in Europe.
