Japanese automaker Nissan has begun production of its NV200 Taxi vehicle, also known as New York’s Taxi of Tomorrow, after a two-year competitive selection process with Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) of New York City.
According to Auto Guide, production has commenced in Cuernavaca, Mexico, after the company has modified the production line in order to integrate the exclusive taxi characteristics of the vehicle, while the paint shop added the familiar New York taxi yellow shade.
The Nissan NV200 Taxi will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a 150,000-mile powertrain warranty. All the vehicles will be built with a transparent roof panel, opening side windows, a mobile phone charging station with a 12-volt outlet, and a flat floor.
The Nissan NV200 won New York City’s Taxi of Tomorrow competition against the Ford Transit Connect and the Karsan V-1.
