As it usually happens for April Fool's, one's funny-attention span ends after coming across three or four online attempts at amusement. Nissan managed to dodge the I'm-so-bored-by-this bullet this year by pulling a stunt that could hardly be labeled under April 1st stuff.
We're talking about the time when the automaker asked Christ Forsberg to drift the hell out of a Nissan NV Cargo van. The company set up a little obstacle course, with the pro drifter behaving almost as if the commercial vehicle were a Silvia.
On that occasion, the joke was supposed to be about Forsberg being told he would slide a 370Z Nismo, but in reality being asked to get behind the wheel of the blue collar machine instead.
Well, the slip angle age eventually got to drift the Z, but we weren't shown the footage. This is where the clip below steps in, as it reveals the full adventure.
And no, we're not here to talk about how Forsberg drifted a Nissan sportscar - now that drifting is on its way to becoming mainstream, that might just be borderline boring.
Instead, the video below shows the drifter sliding the van, as part of a drift battle against another driver, who had grabbed the keys to Forsberg's 370Z Nismo.
Now, you might be wondering how the NV Cargo van can slide so well. Sure, Forsberg's skill is important, but he couldn't drift without any help from the machine around him, right?
The answer is simpler than you might expect. Apparently, the van had to make due with a locked differential (not sure if they turned to welding it) and a hydraulic handbrake. But it all worked damn fine.
P.S.: Those of you who missed the original clip should know we added this at the bottom of the page.
