Nissan Truckumentary Shows 2016 Titan Durability Testing

Vehicle testing used to be a secretive business, but ever since social media gripped the world, companies are eager to show everything they do before a car or truck hits dealerships. Nissan has just released the fourth installment of their Titan Truckumentary and it's about toughness.

In this latest clip, engineers explain what they did to ensure the truck can live up to the harshness of the roads. All the tests were carried out in the lab at the Arizona Test Center. Filming took place in Stanfield, Arizona and at NTCNA in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The 2016 Titan was placed on a four-post shaker and left there for over a month to simulate the equivalent of 600,000 miles of road abuse.

Specially designed robots also subjected it to hood and door to durability tests, where they are repeatedly slammed shut at high speed. This simulates 15 years of hard use for the latches and hinges.

The 2016 Nissan Titan should challenge the big boys in the pickup market later in the year. The Tennessee-built vehicle will be offered with a 5-liter ISV Cummins V8 turbodiesel making 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft (752 Nm) of torque The XD model is the highlight of the range, being equipped with a 6-speed Aisin automatic and capable of towing up to 12,000 lbs (5,443 kg).

The 5-liter diesel has a sequential turbocharging system with a small turbo that spools up fast at low revs and a big one for higher up in the rev band. Yes, you can still order the V6 and V8 gas-burners, but we wouldn't bother with them.

The 2016 Titan will be offered in King Cab and Single Cab specification, along with three different bed lengths. Nissan is throwing in a 5-inch color display, 12-speaker sound system plus 12-volt & 120-volt power outlets.
