Nissan Trolls Ferrari, Makes Nyan Cat GT-R for Deadmau5

In one of the best trolling moves we’ve seen this year, Nissan is pulling a PR stunt on Ferrari. In case you haven’t heard of Canadian DJ Deadmau5, you’ll certainly know his name after this story, as the guy’s personal branding was the fire starter here.

Apparently, somebody over at Nissan was paying attention to the conflict between Deadmau5 and Maranello - the Prancing Horse wasn’t happy about the electronic music producer transforming his 458 Spider into what he called the Purrari.

The artist, also known as Joel Zimmerman, had wrapped the White 458 in a Nyan cat theme, but Ferrari took the most offense in the fact that the Prancing Horse logos had been replaced with Purrari feline badges.

Ferrari sent Deadmau5 a cease and desist letter on the matter and the car is now back to its White condition, accompanying the man’s other supercar, a McLaren 650S Spider - this is also White and while the producer has just started customizing it, we doubt he’ll take things too far this time.

This is where Nissan steps in, with the carmaker recently sending a rather special tweet to Deadmau5.
It looks like Nissan is offering the DJ a GT-R with a Nyan cat wrap and, get this, a “Spec Deadmau5” logo. Nissan has also offered Usain Bolt a Godzilla, with the athlete being their brand ambassador, so the new move makes total sense - in fact, this would be a more organic partnership.

After all, the GT-R’s top asset lies in it’s... electronics. It’s the computers that allow this car to drift at triple digit speeds and act casual about it. Sure, the GT-R doesn’t have the 458’s feel, being unentertaining when driven below the hot level.

It seems only natural for Nissan to take on Ferrari. After all the Japanese carmaker’s battle with Porsche appears to have been put on a hold. Still, we may see the fight reignite, as the 911 is about to get a major revamp, while more and more rumors about the next-generation GT-R are emerging.

Interestingly enough, the... Pussan, if we may call it that, sports the Mau5head logo and we’ll remind you Disney recently tried to block the artist from trademarking this. His lawyers said Deadmau5 “will not be bullied by Disney,” so expect the show to go on.
