A new report from carmagazine.co.uk confirms that Nissan is hurriedly preparing a hot Nismo version of the new Qashqai, revealed a couple of weeks ago. According to them, Nissan's global product chief Andy Palmer has revealed some initial details about the car.
He said the Qashqai Nismo will have more power than the Juke Nismo, which packs 200 PS (197 bhp). An SUV with 200 hp? Surely that's not impressive if you live in the US and own a Rogue, but the Qashqai is not an SUV, it's a crossover.
The power will likely still come from a 1.6-liter turbo, similar to the one in the Juke Nismo. But it's being suggested the new output could be closer to 220 PS, like the new Juke Nismo RS revealed last week or the rumored Clio RS Gordini coming next year.
The reason why we thing the 1.6-liter will be uses is because a the second generation Qashqai already offers a 1.6-liter DIG-T engine with 150 hp.
According to the British magazine, the Qashqai Nismo could be revealed before the end of the year, probably as a concept. Deliveries of the new Qashqai haven't even started yet, so maybe it's a bit premature to be thinking about output and a launch date, but the Nismo 5-seater crossover is on the way for sure!
