Nissan to Reassess Pixo Deal with Suzuki

Suzuki's deal with Volkswagen changed plans of several automakers that previously collaborated with the Japanese manufacturer, most of them deciding to end ties with it. The best and the most recent example is Nissan which is going to review the sourcing deal it has with Suzuki, according to India's Economic Times.

At this time, Maruti Suzuki is building the Nissan Pixo at its facility in Haryana and also sells a rebadged version on the local market as A-Star. Nissan Motor Co Executive Vice-President Collin Dodge told the aforementioned source that the contract ends in 2013 and, as far as Nissan is concerned, it will last until this point despite the Suzuki - Volkswagen deal.

"We have a contract (with Suzuki) for Pixo supply to Nissan in Europe with a committed volume and committed transfer price till 2013. That's legal, that stands," said Collin Dodge. "If after 2013 they (Suzuki) don't wish to continue with that contract (because of) Volkswagen, it is for them to decide. If it suits us to continue, we will review at an appropriate time whether we will be okay or not," he added. "If not, we will find somebody else".

"We got no cross share holding. We got a contract, it's between us and them. It's legal. We set the volume, we set the price and we set the length of period."

Opel also recently confirmed that the next Agila will be developed with Suzuki contribution, leaving the Japanese partner to concentrate on its deal with Volkswagen.

“Suzuki has different plans now. We have an existing contract with Suzuki that will expire pretty soon and we will continue to work with Suzuki on the current Agila,” head of sales and marketing Alain Visser said in an interview at the Geneva auto show, according to Autonews.
