Nissan to Manufacture Next-Generation Rogue Outside Japan

Japanese carmaker Nissan will move Rogue production out of its native country once the company introduces the next-generation model, believed to happen in 2013. The car is currently being built at the Kyushu factory in Japan and is based on the same platform as the Qashqai and the Dualis. Sold only in North America, the Rogue will be manufactured elsewhere, but the future site to host production is still unknown as Nissan tried to keep all things secret.

"There won't be another Rogue made in Japan (when it is remodelled)," a Nissan chief executive told Reuters in an interview.

"We do not disclose detailed plans of future models but among the many ways to reduce the impact of the yen, increasing local production has always been one of our options," Nissan spokesman Toshitake Inoshita added when asked about the company's future production plans.

The 2010 Nissan Rogue is equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower and is being offered in four trims, with pricing starting at $20,340 for the S front-wheel drive version. The aforementioned engine achieves a fuel consumption rating of 22 mpg City/27 mpg highway for 2-wheel drive models and 21 mpg City/26 mpg highway for all-wheel drive models.

The entry-level S configuration is offered as standard with the new 360° Value Package which comprises a wide array of features, such as 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, privacy glass, integrated rearview mirror rearview monitor, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear spoiler and chrome grille.
