As Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn, said after the company launched the Leaf EV, they will be relying heavily on hybrids and full EVs in their model lineup, in years to come. Now, they have announced that they will be launching a total of 15 new hybrid and all-electric vehicles by the year 2017.
Among these will be an all-electric Infiniti-branded luxury car, which will be launched in 2014, as well as a new version of the Leaf. Still, they need to figure out a way to make the Leaf EV sell better in the US, as it has been struggling for all but the last two months.
With these new models, they plan to challenge Toyota’s superiority in the sector, in the United States, as well as the future green models from GM, as well as the highly-praised Volt range-extender hybrid.
They will be concentrating more on the US market, and other markets where their presence is not as large as it could be, in order to compensate for the massive losses they have encountered, due to the unstable situation in China. This has forced them to cut their profit forecast for the year, by 20%.
