Japanese automaker Nissan has announced plans to expand its global electric vehicle production lineup to five models.
Speaking during a product preview in the United States, Carla Bailo, senior vice president for R&D at Nissan Americas said “we haven't announced what models they will be, but we have plans for five”, adding that “the others will come in due time."
Bailo declined any other details on Nissan’s future range of EV vehicles, but did say that all the company’s electric cars will eventually be fitted with wireless inductive charging. “Once that technology is ready, we will use it across our brands,” she added.
In related news, Nissan also promised to introduce a self-driving automobile by 2020. The revolutionary vehicle will use the new Autonomous Drive system, which was developed with the of research teams from MIT, Stanford and Oxford universities and demonstrated on a Leaf EV during the Nissan 360 event.
