Nissan Titan and Frontier Get Midnight Editions, Look Stealthy

Nissan thought it would be cool to launch new vehicles during the solar eclipse. But these aren't just any new rides. Say hello to the blacked out Midnight Editions of the Titan, Titan XD, and Frontier. Perhaps they should have called them the Eclipse Editions, now that Nissan owns Mitsubishi.

All-black cars are notoriously difficult to keep clean, so these aren't the sort of trucks you want to go strolling through the mud in. However, if you're looking for the kind of grille treatment that stands out in the parking lot, this is the answer.

All three belong to the new 2018 model year. For the Titan, the Midnight Edition is available as a Crew Cab in SV or SL trim, both in 4x2 and 4x4 forms. The Titan XD version is diesel-only and stuck in Crew Cab SV or SL 4x4 flavors. We're talking about a 5.0-liter Cummins V8 diesel engine that develops 310 hp (231 kW) and 555 lb-ft (751 lb-ft) of torque, so it's not that bad.

For both, the treatment includes a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels, a blacked out grille, polished black mirrors, door handles, side steps and badging. As standard, you also get body-colored bumpers and tinted lights. But you aren't stuck with one general paint color, as Magnetic Black is joined by Gun Metallic and Pearl White.

The Frontier Midnight Edition is Crew Cab SV with 4x2 or 4x4, but auto-only. The other two colors are the same, but Pearl White is now Glacier White. Everything from floor mats to 18-inch wheels is tailored to the truck's nocturnal appearance.

They are by no means the first, as Nissan has a total of nine Midnight Edition models that include the Altima, Maxima, Murano, Pathfinder, Rogue, and Sentra. Ever since they started coming out, the company found they leave the dealer lots about twice as fast than the regular models, so they keep cranking them out.

We're still awaiting pricing information for the Titan and Frontier, which should become available during the fall.
