Nissan's New All-Electric e-NV200 Winter Camper Van Concept Is a Beast

It would seem that camper vans have officially become a big thing. Actually, they have always been a big thing, it’s just that now they seem to be getting newfound respect.

Cashing in on that respect mentioned above is Nissan. That’s right folks, camper vans are no longer just a niche. Now, it seems that even the big players want to cash in on this revived market, and they’re right to do so. People are just itching to get moving again. And once that happens, to welcome in the new age of camper vans, we’ll have this concept waiting for us.

So what exactly could be waiting for us if our want is big enough? Well, this is why we’re here, so keep reading. First off, the base for this wonderful idea presented here is the all-electric e-NV200 cargo van. But to call it a cargo van isn’t doing it enough justice as one of the plans for this model is also passenger transportation.

Here, however, all previous ideas for the NV200 base have been discarded, and a complete repurposing has taken place. Personally, I'm super excited about what Nissan is proposing here. Why? Simple. For people like myself, the digital nomads, this vehicle is the perfect tool to own. But don’t go thinking it’s like other campers you’ve seen on our site, because frankly, it isn’t.

First off, let’s address the issue of size. It’s not as roomy as, say, the Knaus camper vans, but it still features the necessary amenities for two people to live quite comfortably. Inside, we still find an integrated functioning kitchen, fridge, folding beds, and insulated glass to help keep the inside nice and comfy no matter what temperatures are outside. This is all achieved through the Nissan Camper Technology Luxury Kit, which does more than just offer comfort.

This puppy has been optimized from the wheels up in order to handle some of the toughest conditions around. Premium off-road tires and an increased ride height have been added to make sure you don’t have any trouble through snow and even mud.

To add even more off-road goodness to everything, Nissan also fitted front and rear mudguards, door-entry mudguards, sidebars, and rubber mats. At the front, we also find a reinforced steel bar with a pair of 5400-Lumens spotlights mounted on top.

Now, being electric and meant for the long road, where and how do we get our juice? Well, two places. The first is a set of solar panels that can be mounted on the roof, which are able to recharge the 220V power pack the vehicle includes. The second is through an array of energy-saving tech, be it hardware or software. One of the systems in place is regenerative braking. But even that system has different levels of regen depending on what you need. I just wonder if that takes care of all this vehicle’s recharging needs.

However, just because it’s a concept doesn’t mean that a stronger foot hasn’t been placed in the door. Nissan is taking this idea quite seriously and is even placing a range of accessories at existing e-NV200 owners' disposal.

If you don’t think that’s enough to understand this major team’s vision for the future, take this comment from Dmitry Busurkin, Corporate Sales &LCV General Manager of Nissan Europe as a hint. "Imbued with the essence of adventure and thrilling electrified power, the Nissan e-NV200 Winter Camper concept van is an optimistic expression of the future of zero-emissions mobility. This vision, and the innovative set of accessories available with the standard e-NV200 models, will get drivers and outdoor enthusiasts alike excited for the adventures we're all craving in the future."

What more do you want? It’s electric, it's ready to take you nearly wherever you want, it can take a beating, and most importantly, it’s the future.
