Nissan Qazana Goes on Sale in 2010

Probably one of the most disputed crossovers concepts revealed this year, the Nissan Qazana, is projected to go on sale in October 2010.

“The Nissan brand is going to have a more attractive and emotional appeal in the future,” an inside source told autocar.co.uk “and the Qazana will start the process.”

The concept that was showcased by Nissan at this year’s Geneva Show is inspired by motorbikes and beach buggies and mixes SUVs' and sport cars' styling cues.

Inside, the design follows the lines set by the exterior. The centre portion of the backrests features a mesh material, allowing fresh air to circulate around the occupants, while boasting elements of the lightweight carbon fibber seat structure.

The dashboard is dominated by a centrally mounted screen, which will provide both navigation info and information about the fully electronic four-wheel drive with torque vectoring system.

Though some are quite skeptical on the success of Nissan’s new crossover, due to the fact the it will likely retain the exaggerated proportions and much of the interior of the concept shown at this year’s Geneva show, the insider says Nissan is confident.

“We have studied the market and customers extremely closely and are sure that it will be a success,”
he said.

As for the Japanese carmaker, it is keen to expand into Europe’s booming crossover market following the success of the Qashqai. Nissan sold 183,294 units of the Qashqai last year.

The Qazana is based on the same platform as the Nissan Note and it is scheduled to be built at Nissan’s Sunderland plant, replacing the Micra supermini’s production line there.
