The Qashqai, as I’m sure you know already, is the highest volume model for Nissan in Europe. Ever. Because too much is never enough, the Japanese manufacturer has dreamt up a plusher-than-Tekna trim level that emphasizes on value for money.
Christened Nissan Qashqai Black Edition SV, this thing costs £27,310 in the UK. In comparison, the Tekna trim level starts from £24,290. Well, then, what does £3,020 more give you in return other than the paint?
According to Nissan, the Qashqai Black Edition SV is built upon the Tekna trim level and serves as the de facto flagship of the range. Offered in a limited production run, the Black Edition SV adds black-painted 19-inch alloy wheels, front and rear styling plates, and door entry guards that read Black Edition.
Other goodies include the panoramic roof (£400 option on the Tekna), the Nissan Safety Shield suite of passive and active safety features, black leather upholstery, seven-inch NissanConnect infotainment system, 360-degree Around View Monitor, bi-LED headlights, Intelligent Park Assist, and many more stuff.
How does a 1.5-liter dCi turbo diesel sound like? Give or take a few ponies, it’s essentially the same engine you’ll find under the hood of the Dacia Sandero and Duster. Oh well, at least it’s frugal. On the downside, this limited-run Qashqai comes with front-wheel-drive and a six-speed manual. That’s a bit cheeky for a range-topping model. A CVT and AWD would’ve been more appropriate for a flagship, though.
Kieran McMenamin, section manager for the Nissan Qashqai in the United Kingdom, had the following to comment on thisspecial edition trim level: “Top-grade Tekna versions represent around one in three Qashqai purchases and recent reveals like the Qashqai Premium Concept identify a desire and demand for Qashqai to extend towards the higher end of the segment. As a new flagship for the range, the Black Edition is the definitive statement for Qashqai – luxury styling and generous specification but maintaining an accessible price point.”
