Nissan NV200 Vanette Taxi on its Way to Tokyo

Nissan is revealing one by one the models in its lineup which will be showcased at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show in a couple of weeks. The next goodie on the Japanese carmaker’s list is a taxi version of the popular Nissan Vanette, which will be in Nissan’s booth at the aforementioned event, scheduled to take place between October 24 and November 4.

According to the manufacturer, the Nissan NV200 Vanette meets Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's universal-design taxi concept, so it’s good to start rolling on the streets.

Nissan revealed that the purpose of such a vehicle is to provide the elderly and disabled the freedom to remain independent in their daily and social activities. “The NV200 Vanette Taxi is designed to suit the needs of any customer, anywhere at any time, with its spacious cabin providing ample room for all passengers, including those in wheelchairs,” the company said in a release.

Thanks to the low waistline and high seating position, passengers can enjoy the open feel and get a better visibility, while rails and other details make it easy to entry or exit.

Nissan says that the NV200 Vanette Taxi will be on sale by the end of 2010, meeting Ministry guideline requirements. However, pricing is yet to be set, most likely closer to the market launch.

The Vanette was first introduced this May, praised by Nissan as being "designed to revolutionize the traditional concept of light commercial vehicles". In addition to the two-seater version, the NV200 Vanette is also offered in a five-seater version with two rows of seats, and the new seven-seater wagon, which can be used for both commercial and private purposes.
