Nissan's recently launched NV200 van was designated the International Van of the Year (IVoY) 2010 from 23 specialized European journalists, representing some half of million readers in Europe.
"The Jury was particularly impressed by the fact that Nissan created a compact light commercial vehicle that sets new standards in terms of internal space in relation to the external dimensions", IVoY Jury says in a release.
"We are delighted to receive the IVoY 2010 award as the recognition of Nissan's determination to create innovative light commercial vehicles that exceed customer expectations," Andy Palmer, Nissan vice president added.
"The NV200 is a global vehicle that associates unmatched levels of functionality with unique and attractive design. We offer our customers a vehicle that is an efficient and reliable business tool."
The NV200 debuted in Europe back in May, when it was presented at the 2009 Barcelona Auto Show. It is powered by two engines, one using diesel and the other petrol. The petrol version is Nissan's aluminum 1.6l HR16 engine, developing 108 horsepower and 153 Nm of torque.
The unit, similar to its diesel counterpart, is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The diesel unit is a 8-valve 1.5 dCi, developing 86 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque.
It is already sold in Japan, already managing to snatch 40 percent market share. European sales start this month, with the van priced in the UK £12,090 (including Road Fund Licence and £55 first registration fee).
