First unveiled at the 2008 Paris Auto Show, the "moving oasis" Nuvu electric concept has packed its bags and went to China, to attend the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show, together with Nissan's latest, the Sylphy sedan, the World Performance Car of the Year Nissan GT-R and the NV200.
Back to the Nuvu, Nissan plans to use the 2+1 seater as the base platform for the development of future city cars. Unlikely to see production "as is", the electric concept, which incorporates all organic, natural and recycled materials in its interior design is, according to its manufacturer, "an ideal mobility solution for the urban environment".
Nuvu has been developed on an unique platform, the concept is a "test bed for much of the technology that will be used in Nissan's production EV" (this remains a secret for the time being). Other specifications, like the amount of power or torque of the car, are also being kept a secret.
Still, what is known is the vehicle's range -125 km- and its top speed -120 km/hour (74.5 mph).
"Nuvu is literally a new view at the future of the city car. It is electric, of course, but as far as Nissan is concerned, for tomorrow's city cars that is a given. No, the most important aspect of Nuvu is the interior design which provides great comfort and space in an intelligent package designed to make best use of our crowded roads and limited parking slots," François Bancon, Nissan Advance Planning Department manager said when the Nuvu was first unveiled.
The Japanese manufacturer plans on introducing an all-electric vehicle in the Chinese market by 2011. Whether the EV will be the successor of the Nuvu or that of the Nissan EV remains to be seen.
